Marc C. Martin

Mark MartinMarc Martin is the Director of Athletic Bands and a Visiting Assistant Professor of Music at the University of Houston Moores School of Music. Prior to his appointment, Mr. Martin enjoyed five rewarding years as the Associate Director of Bands at Langham Creek High School in the Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District. Working alongside University of Houston graduates Gloria Ramirez and Paul Rousse, the band continued to receive recognition on the state and national level alike and produced multiple Texas All-State Musicians. The Lobo Marching Band and Mr. Martin’s concert ensembles received unanimous Division I Ratings all five years of his tenure at Langham Creek High School. The marching band also earned repeat appearances at the UIL State Marching Contest. Prior to teaching at Langham Creek, Mr. Martin served as the Director of Bands, Dance Programs, and Elementary Bands (Grades 5-12) at Vandebilt Catholic High School in Houma, LA from 2006-2008.

Mr. Martin holds a Bachelor of Music Education from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette where he studied under Dr. William Hochkeppel and served for two years as Drum Major for the Pride of Acadiana Marching Band. Upon completion of his undergraduate degree, Mr. Martin earned the Master of Applied Music in Conducting from the University of Houston where he was awarded a Moores Fellowship. While there, Mr. Martin studied with David Bertman, Tom Bennett, and John Benzer. During his time as a Graduate Assistant with the University Bands, he garnered extensive experience with all concert ensembles, the “Spirit of Houston” Band, Cheer and Dance Teams, and the Basketball Bands.

A member of the both the 2001 and 2002 World Champion Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps, Mr. Martin has also gained a rich background in the pageantry and spirit of the marching arts as an instructor and arranger for various high school programs since that time.

In the summertime, Mr. Martin serves as Camp Director for Cougar Band Camp – held annually at the Moores School of Music for approximately 250+ middle school and high school students from across the state. Mr. Martin’s professional affiliations include the College Band Director’s National Association, the Texas Bandmaster’s Association and the Texas Music Educator’s Association.

Mr. Martin’s greatest treasure in life is his family and their undying support of his career in music.
